Wake up somewhere new each morning with Confused.com's best cruising locations
If you're a holidaymaker who loves travelling but can never
decide where to go, why not consider a cruise? That way, you
can wake up somewhere different each morning.
Picture perfect Panama
Set sail along the picturesque Panama Canal, which stretches
51 miles between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, and breaks
the American continent in two. It's one of the world's greatest
engineering feats and is often referred to as the eighth Wonder
of the World.
Enjoy the exhilarating sensation as six immense locks work to
raise the ship from sea level to 85 feet.
Depart from Florida and embark on an adventure along the famous
waterway before heading to a West Coast destination such as
Los Angeles.
Along the way, expect to take in the sights and sounds of Caribbean
ports, lush rainforests, beautiful Mayan ruins and vibrant Mexican
resorts.
All aboard for Alaska
Searching for a cruise with a difference? If you're brave enough
to leave the sunshine behind, try an altogether chillier experience
by heading north to the far reaches of Alaska.
Cruising is an ideal way to see the true beauty of this destination
as many of the towns aren't linked by roads.
Magnificent glaciers and dense forests dot the coastline and
there's an array of wildlife for you to enjoy. Keep an eye out
for humpback whales, grizzly bears, caribou herds and eagles
in some of the most remote spots in the world.
And for an even closer inspection, pre-book land tours through
the Denali National Park and Rocky Mountains or get to know
the locals of Fairbank and Anchorage.
The mysteries of the Nile
Imagine sitting out on the sun deck, sipping a cool drink while
snaking your way down the longest river in the world. A cruise
along the Nile allows you to experience all the sites and sounds
of this ancient land.
Must-sees include the Karnak and Luxor temples, the Valley of
the Kings and the Colossi of Memnon.
Cruises can be extended to include Cairo with its Sphinx and
Pyramids or the vibrant city of Aswan with its bustling markets
- a must for any shopaholic, so don't forget your credit
card. And don't forget that camel ride!
From here, it's also possible to cruise to Abu Simbel, famed
for its desert landscapes, or visit the sacred temples on the
shores of Lake Nasser.
Magical Mediterranean
If you're short on time but still want to set sail, then a Mediterranean
cruise is your best option.
Often split into either eastern or western-focused trips, you'll
get to experience some of Europe's most beautiful and cosmopolitan
destinations all in one holiday.
Western cruises can take in the cultural sights of Barcelona,
the glamour of Monte Carlo and the romance of Italian cities
such as Venice or Rome.
Eastern cruises can take you into the Azure waters of the Aegean
Sea and the Greek isles of Mykanos and Santorini. Then there
are the bustling markets of Morocco and the blissful beaches
of Croatia and Malta.
Out of Africa
Combine a safari trip with your cruise for an action-packed
holiday in South Africa.
Begin your adventure in Cape Town and enjoy the stunning scenery
of the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point. Close
by are the famous wine lands, most famously the picturesque
Stellenbosch with its oak-lined roads.
Back on board, you can drift onwards to East London (no, not
that East London!), with its lagoons and waterfalls and the
colonial influenced Durban.
Further on is Port Elizabeth, where you can enjoy excursions
into the Shamwari Game Reserve before cruising to Mossel Bay.
The dramatic shoreline here is often touted as Africa's most
spectacular.
A few tips
When it comes to booking a cruise, the sheer choice can prove
overwhelming. But before you reach for your credit
card, ask what you want out of the cruise. Are you looking
to laze around or get exploring? Do you want peace and quiet
on board or lots of activities day and night?
Don't be afraid to ask the travel company lots of questions
to make sure the cruise is right for you. And don't get forget
travel
insurance to make sure you're covered should things go wrong.
