How to Preserve Your Eyesight

Sight is one of man's most important senses. That is why it
is essential to protect your eyesight
at all costs. If you take care
of your eyes you can live well into your 90s with very little
or no vision problems. There are some simple things we can do
every day to protect and improve our vision. Taking the time
to do them can mean the difference between seeing clearly your
entire life and risking developing serious visual impairment.
Diet plays a very important role in the protection and improvement
of eye sight. The Chinese have long been known for drinking
certain juices to improve eyesight. One such juice known for
helping to clear the vision is made from a blend of celery,
peppermint, and Chinese parsley. Research has revealed that
the luteolin, an antioxidant bioflavonoid present in these three
plants provide protection for cells and helps protect the eye
from UV radiation damage and glycation, which could potentially
damage the retina. Luteolin also regulates insulin sensitivity
and helps create healthy blood sugar levels. The ingredients
can be blended with water or placed in a juicer to make a vision
preserving drink.
Not only what you drink, but the things you eat can also help to improve your vision. Foods like spinach containing the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin can help to protect your retina from the macular degeneration. Other green leafy vegetables like broccoli, collards, kale, mustard greens and turnip greens are also lutein and zeaxanthin rich. Squash, pumpkin, green peas and corn are also rich in antioxidants adding spirulina, chlorella, and blue-green algae to your diet can also help your eyes. The vitamin A and beta-carotene found in carrots are good for your eyes as well. Bilberry, a type of blueberry, and Goji Berry are both rich in antioxidants and can strengthen your eyesight. They make the perfect snack.
An often overlooked, but important element for improving and protecting your eye health is water. Water is important for the eye to function properly. Drinking 8 glasses of water each day not only keeps your body hydrated, it is essential for the proper functioning of your eyes as well. Water nourishes the eyes and keeps them properly lubricated. If you want to protect your vision you must get a daily supply of clean, pure water.
Regular exercise also plays a role in protecting your vision. It may help prevent age related macular degeneration. Wearing sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun's harmful UV rays and safety glasses when working with tools can protect your vision as well.
Above all, have regular all check-ups and eye exams. Identifying and treating potential problems early can safeguard the long term health of your eyes.
