Tackle Draughts

If your home is draughty, heat is drawn away and it costs you more to keep warm. It's easy to stop the wind whistling through your letterbox and under your door gap and you will feel the difference very quickly indeed.

Turn down the thermostat by just 1°C

Lower your thermostat by just 1°C and you could cut your fuel bill by up around 10%. You may not notice the temperature change, but your bill would. Also, if you wash your clothes at 30°C instead of 40°C you'll use less electricity too.

Check for dripping taps

Dripping hot water taps waste energy and in one week wastes enough hot water to fill roughly half a bath, so fix leaking taps and make sure they're fully turned off after you have used them.

Switch lights and appliances off

Little changes really do add up, so try to turn off the lights when you leave a room. Also, don't leave appliances on standby and remember not to leave laptops, notebooks, ipods and mobile phones on charge unnecessarily.

Use energy-saving light bulbs

Energy saving light bulbs last up to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs, and using one can save you around £50 over the lifetime of the bulb. Why not make it your New Year's resolution to replace broken incandescent bulbs with energy-saving ones this year and beyond?

These little changes could make a big difference to your energy bills!

Oh, come on admin, we're not little babies. We've known all this stuff for the last fifty years, apart from the energy saving bulbs.

Try and credit us with a little more intelligence and maybe you'll get a bit more response to this forum :x

In our busy lives a little reminder now and then doesn't hurt.

Wow! You can still move fast for an old 'un, eh?

Carry on like that and you can turn your thermostat down 2 degrees!
