The rising number of older employees staying in work beyond state retirement age is driving down wages as they increase competition for jobs, a new report suggests.
Employees are set to enjoy their first real pay rise in nearly a decade this year with wages rising by 1.9 per cent, according to leading economists in the EY Item Club report.
With inflation at 0.5 per cent it will be the first time pay has outpaced the cost of living since 2007.
