Workers over the age of 50 are considerably less likely to have opportunities for career progression and skills development.

Career progression stalls at 50 as employers neglect to offer their older workers new development opportunities, a new survey has found.

Almost twice as many over-50s as under-50s said that they have not had the chance over the last year to learn new things and develop workplace skills, with 27pc of the older cohort missing out on this opportunity compared to 14pc of their younger colleagues. Read more

A million over-50s being dumped on the scrapheap

More than a million over-50s have been forced to stop working as employers continue to discriminate against older workers, a damning report claims.

Academics revealed that ‘older workers are being failed at every turn’ and find it harder to both ‘keep their jobs and find suitable employment after job loss’.

In a report entitled The Missing Million, it claimed that ‘over a million older people have been pushed out of the labour market for reasons beyond their control and are now struggling to find employment’. Read more
