Hi Everybody,
You have to admire people like this, who can put pen to paper and write books about their birthplaces - and make them very readable. It's surprising, even though we may have been born there, how little we really know about the places we live in. Even the famous, historical towns and cities have so much to reveal and even more surprising, things that have occurred during our lifetimes. Street names, local sayings and dialect. Each with a tale to tell. All took for granted.
These characters, who can bring all these things back to life in the form of a book or film, for me are local heroes and thoroughly deserve more recognition than they actually get.
I live in Sheffield and less than 100 metres from my door is an inconspicuous little shop where most of the the books about the city, it's own dialect and its characters are published.
If you're from Sheffield, you will have seen these books on sale in the city, but if you haven't, I'd like to give them a mention here. In their own right, they are also heroes for having the courage to commit these to print for us all to learn and enjoy.
