Heart patients 'can fly safely'

After years of confusion, new guidelines have revealed that there is "no significant threat" to the majority of heart patients from long or short-haul flights.

Fears over whether people with heart conditions should fly, particularly those who may be affected by reduced levels of oxygen in the plane's cabin, have been alleviated by new guidance from the British Cardiac Society (BCS).

The new advice says that even those with the most severe conditions, such as those at risk of deep vein thrombosis, can still fly if they follow the guidelines and take extra precautions. more
