WOULD
YOU LIKE SOMETHING FOR NOTHING?

Do you still go shopping with cash in your bag and at the same time
worry about whether you are going to be mugged, have your purse stolen,
etc? Well, why not lighten your load and take a credit card (with
just a small amount of cash for emergencies, of course). Already I
can hear you say, 'yes, but I have always paid by cash - don't want
to get involved with credit - always pay as I go and not have worries
etc etc.' Now we all know that using a credit card to buy goods on
credit and building up a debt is building up problems and sleepless
nights, BUT IF YOU ARE MATURE-MINDED AND CLEAR YOUR BALANCE EACH MONTH
WITHOUT FAIL, then paying by certain credit
cards results in GETTING SOMETHING FOR NOTHING!
Take for example the Tesco
Visa Card. You can use it practically everywhere for all your USUAL
PURCHASES whether groceries, petrol, clothes, theatre, holidays, air
fares, insurance etc. You are not changing your usual expenditure,
but for every £2 you spend using your Tesco card you earn l
clubcard point, and if you use it in a Tesco
store then you get l clubcard point for every £1 you spend It's
amazing how quickly the points mount up and every quarter you will
receive Money Vouchers which you can use for FREE GROCERIES. Believe
me, shopping around the supermarket is not such a chore when you don't
have to pay at the checkout. BUT DO REMEMBER,YOU MUST PAY OFF YOUR
BALANCE EACH MONTH BEFORE THE DUE DATE. I can almost hear you saying
'Yes, but what if I forget? My memory is not what it was'. WELL, SET
UP A DIRECT DEBIT with your bank, and they will remember for you and
automatically pay from your account every month.
NOW,
if you would rather have CASH RETURNED TO YOU instead of grocery vouchers,
air miles, etc. then American Express Blue Card pays you l% cashback
on your purchases (2% to new card holders for the first 3 months).
Nationwide Cash Reward Card pays you ½% cashback (1% for the
first 6 months).
AND
whilst we are talking about Nationwide, their card is about the only
card I know that doesn't incur a charge when withdrawing money abroad.
ALSO
a good way of keeping control of your finances and viewing your account
on a day-to-day basis from the comfort of your home is to open a Nationwide
e-Savings account together with a current Flexaccount. This way you
can ensure that only a very small amount is kept in the current Flexaccount
and the bulk is kept in the e-mail account where it earns a very good
rate of interest. Then, when you need to write a cheque, with a click
of your mouse you can transfer the desired amount to the current account.
BEFORE
I LEAVE YOU, A WORD OF WARNING
IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR FINANCES
HEALTHY DON'T BE TEMPTED TO EVER TAKE OUT A STORE CARD WITH THE WELL-KNOWN
HIGH STREET STORES such as Comet Debenhams, Laura Ashley, etc. Some
of them charge almost 30% interest. So that wonderful sale bargain
you thought you got for £100 could in fact cost you almost £130.
So, if you already use them my advice would be to clear the balances
as soon as possible and then tear them up.
REMEMBER, ANY CARD YOU USE SHOULD BENEFIT YOU AND NOT THE CARD ISSUER,
AND BY USING THE RIGHT CARD YOU CAN PUT THE MONEY YOU SAVE TOWARDS
THAT HOLIDAY YOU DESERVE. HAPPY SHOPPING!
